Great site that gives you the opportunity to write a message to Japan, have it translated to Japanese, and see it mapped with everyone else’s messages.

Not surprisingly, this was my favorite Super Bowl ad. After all of the machismo, HeMan Woman Hater’s Club Pantsless Madness, it was nice to see. We’re Doritos/Pepsi and Bud/A-B the only companies with a marketing budget this year??! Do better!
Salon did a nice wrap-up: http://www.salon.com/life/super_bowl/index.html?story=/ent/tv/review/2010/02/08/superbowl_commercials

iPads or iAid? →
A great post by Dennis Whittle, co-founder of GlobalGiving, about the new Apple iPad and the naming controversy that had the term “#iTampon” topping the list of trending terms on Twitter yesterday. Excerpt:
The silver lining of the controversy is that it raised consciousness about this problem on Twitter and Facebook. As a result of tweets and Facebook posts, 28 donors...

GlobalGiving is an efficient, open, thriving online marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them. Donors choose where they want their money to go — donors do not donate to an organization in general, but donate money that must be dedicated to covering the costs of a specific...

PREVIEWS: Michelle Obama Vanessa Williams Sandra Bullock Elle MacPherson Yes, they have fashion consultants, make-up artists, trainers, yada yada… But they are still doing it and doing it well. Editorial on Helping Haiti, Now and Later - by... →
But after the emergency passes, the work of recovery and reconstruction will remain. Since Hillary and I first traveled to Haiti in December 1975, I have been captivated by that country’s promise and peril and by the persistence of hope among its people even in the face of abuse, neglect and poverty. Already, the Haitian government and citizens, the Haitian Diaspora, neighboring countries...

I wholeheartedly agree!
Excerpt:
“It is in many ways offensive for those at our major financial institutions to suggest that they can today afford excessive, often outlandish bonuses for their top executives but cannot afford to make whole the taxpayers,” the senior administration official said.
The proposed tax would be collected from roughly 50 banks, insurance companies and...

Things to consider...?
me: so what are u doing to help?
Irv: i gave my money... its one of those things where you cant physically go down there...
me: i know. i was doing a little research to try to see what could be done, but it;s mostly donations at this point. watching cnn last night and this morning... madness
Irv: yea...the infrastructure is shot... its insane...but they knew haiti was unprepared for any type of none hurricane dissaster...this is a good time to fix their whole system of government...they've been neglected for too long... if they dont help them build a believable infrastructure it will happen again
me: i agree. but the question becomes who does that and what does that mean for that entity -- be it government, ngo, or other... who is the "they"?
Irv: honestly...we probably do it, but it is a generational process... whatever happens wont be evaluable for at least 20-30 years
me: you know ppl and their need for immediate gratification... and i agree. but that's a major investment that we (if you mean the US) don't have the money for right now.. we need to give to the less fortunate, but we need to help them help themselves and we need partners in the effort.
Irv: yea...i agree...but that is a terrible place to have american dissent. taken globally...haiti is the perfect place to have a terrorist network...at least for a short period the christmas day bomber could have easily passed for haitian...

Unlike the donating through the Red Cross where your donation “is added to the Disaster Relief Fund to help victims of this and other disasters (1),” when you donate through GlobalGiving you can be sure your donation is going towards helping earthquake victims in Haiti in a matter of days. We have an extensive network of organizations already doing great work on the ground in Haiti and...

Manipulating the screen with the flick of the wrist will remind many people of the 2002 film “Minority Report” in which Tom Cruise moves images and documents around on futuristic computer screens with a few sweeping gestures. The real-life technology will call for similar flair and some subtlety. Stand in front of a TV armed with a gesture technology camera, and you can turn on the set with a...

No food, drinks, chewing gum, … or pants?
There was at least one lawyer, a patent examiner, several computer geeks and the odd musician and comedian. Molly Wells, 18, of Caroline County, Va., was there — later stripped down to a yellow tank top, turquoise boy shorts and black Converse sneakers.
Why? “Because it’s free,” she said.
“There’s not really...
